Ho Tram Open 2015 was held successfully and the beauty of green is an impression part of this. Mr. Ali Macfadyen - Superintendent of The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip has shared with VietnamGolf the secret of creating the best quality grass for the world-class golf tournament.
Please tell about yourself to Vietnam Golf readers?
I was born in Dunoon, Scotland and have been in the golf industry for 18 years. I would say it is a labour of love, being an avid golfer myself. I moved out to Vietnam and began working at Danang Golf Club 2009 and left 2013 to start working at The Bluffs.
How The Bluffs Ho Tram was prepared to meet the high standard of the Ho Tram Open recently?
We agreed that our mission was to present one of the finest conditioned golf course for the Ho Tram Open. Given the visual impact of live broadcast, we wanted to ensure the consumers first impression was nothing short of breathtaking.
We prepared a detailed 6 month maintenance program that identified key elements for us to focus our attention on. A major part of this was to introduce a scarifying program to ensure we produced compact and strong surfaces. We were exceptionally proud of the end result, which has given us a better understanding of the golf course and we can enhance our guest and members experience on a daily basis.
What are the most important steps to assure the golf course to be well maintained?
The climate here can be aggressive and that requires hour by hour vigilance to ensure growth patterns are managed and disease pressures controlled. This means the time commitment to monitor the course is considerable.
As a team we integrated safeguards and committed to our development program to elevate the green quality and grass structure. We believe wholeheartedly in our agronomic practice and our standards, which the support of many allow us to enjoy world-class surfaces. I would say you need a great team, a clear vision, a committed ownership group and a strong work ethic to maintain a golf course to international standard.
