Vietnam has been placed in Group C of the Futsal World Cup to be held from September 10 to October 1, inclusive, in Columbia and will face tough competition from Italy, Paraguay and Guatemala.
Italy, who won a bronze medal at the previous quadrennial event in Thailand, is probably the toughest squad the Vietnam team will square off with, according to head coach Bruno Formoso.
Guatemala who finished third at the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship, is no pushover either, said Coach Formoso.
Earlier Vietnam had beaten reigning champion Japan on penalties in an Asian Football Confederation Futsal Championship quarterfinal in February to secure this, their first-ever ticket to the World Cup.
"We will continue playing our style at the World Cup displaying our never-say-die spirit regardless of the opponents. If we do that, fans and spectators will enjoy the games as well as our showing."
Vietnam will play Guatemala on September 11, Paraguay on September 14 and Italy on September 17, according to the official schedule for the competition.
